"For all those who have faced death and chosen life."
Welcome to the Street Poets Writers Block. This a community poetry forum where you can post your own original poems and comment constructively on the work of others. We encourage you to keep it real -- but keep any sexually explicit or specific gang references to yourselves. Respect is a requirement. Think of the Street Poets Writers Block as a sacred space within which we are invited to connect with each other and the spirits that inspire us to create. It is a place to listen and be heard. To dig deep and dream big. To create the kind of soulful conversation that leads to peace -- in our hearts and on the streets. Thank you, in advance, for adding your voice to the mix. Our world wouldn't be the same without it.

One Street, One Heartbeat, One Love.

I have enough words in my arsenal to kill any bad situation I put you in
That at the end of the conversation would leave you apologizing,
Know how to twist syllables that’ll make a 4 year long affair
With your sister, mother, aunty, cousin, and best friend
Seem like an extremely prestigious compliment.

I caress phrases like I do your body.
Running my finger over your curves
Making slurs out of verbs
Swimming through another heart scars broken stitches
I can mend sorry full bridges in an instant.
My bullets will leave you breathless, but with the addition of wanting more.

I can make a piece of shit yesterday
Turn into tomorrow’s bed of roses.
Never doubt that I can do this.
But don't ever think I will.

My riches come from seeing you happy
And I never want to fall below the poverty line.
I could never hurt you even though at times I wish I would,
My foundation is spoken for.
This is where I stood and always will stand.
Here I make my stand
I'm the one to hold you up
When the world don't give a fuck about you
And only seems to tumble down,
I’ll be your atlas.
Rest it on my back while I keep it spinning,
I’ll hold you in my arms and keep the clock ticking
While I tell you that in the next 30 seconds and the next 30 years,
I want to be looking in your eyes.

Believe me at times I’ve tried.
To hide a feeling behind broken lures
At times I just want to tell you, you never need to worry,
I’ll be yours.

You’ll keep the key to my soul even if you don't want to live in my heart.
The room behind my rib cage will always have your name on the mail box,
And your presence running up my trachea will never tart
I know I’ll never forget the taste of when love starts
And never long for the sensation to end
Your essence is with me.
Whether or not love is the new trend
I’ll be retro style.

Some might call it out of date but I call it old fashion
And one day everything comes back in play
When the games are in need for a new soundtrack
My songs will finally get your attention and you’ll realize…
All I’ve ever wanted was you in return as a payback.
